Alpine Adventures…

Reuben_Tabner_Aiguille_du_Midi.jpgI’m back in Chamonix for a few days, to spend some more time running on these amazing alpine trails, this time with my girlfriend. The weather has been amazing… The views breath taking…

Reuben_Tabner_185700.jpgIt’s largely a relaxing holiday, taking time out, to drink coffee, watch the clouds, and read as much as enjoying the trails. Whilst here, I’m also making final adjustments to my kit for the Lakeland 50, which is now only 10 days away and moving my thinking forward to the UTMB – TDS which is also getting increasingly closer.

UTMB – TDS 90 Day’s to Go

It’s just under three months until the UTMB race series gets underway in Chamonix, kicking off with the TDS – Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie. This race starts in the center of Courmayeur in Italy on Wednesday 28th August at 7:00am and runners have a maximum of 33 hours to complete the 119km to Chamonix.

“A race in open country along the ‘Grande Randonnée’ paths crossing though the Mont-Blanc, Beaufort, Tarentaise and Aosta valley countryside.”

Carte-TDS_coureurs-2013An estimated 1500 runners are expected to line up for the start and I will be amongst them.

With the Lakeland 50 coming the month before at the end of July I have had little chance to think about the TDS, however my thoughts are starting to turn to this race and how I can best prepare for the altitude, the logistics and race day.

I’m heading out to France to run the CCC route in a couple of weeks with the TORQ Trail Running Team, which hopefully will give me some idea of the terrain and the geography of the area. Both the Lakeland 50 and the TDS are my A’ races for the year, so I will be speaking to the guys at TORQ Fitness to ensure that I can recover sufficiently  and maintain fitness between the races and head out to Italy best prepared.images

It’s Official – TORQ Trail Team

TQ_Trail_Facebook_headerWow… So it’s officially out in the open… I will be running for the TORQ Trail Team in 2013..! To say I’m excited is a slight understatement! I’ve known for several days, but have been under an embargo not to tell a soul…

“If anyone knows what effort and achievement look like, it is Reuben. Because aside from being a trail runner, Reuben is an action and lifestyle sports photographer. His job takes him around the world to capture the moments when people achieve what they never thought possible and more.

But Reuben also excels on the other side of the lens, as a lifelong runner who discovered the trails early on…

To be chosen for the team is a massive honour and I can’t wait to meet with the other team members, to race together and share running stories. Although I’ve largely been lost for words over the last few days, I’m sure that will change.

Profil-CCC-2012First things first, as with any team we need to get to know each other so we can learn from each others strengths and weaknesses, so next month we are heading out to Chamonix for a training weekend running the 100km UTMB – CCC (Courmayeur Champex Chamonix) course. With over 19,500 feet of altitude gain, this should be perfect preparation for the UTMB -TDS which I have coming up in August.

I will be bringing you updates of my experiences running and training with the TORQ Team here. Now I’m off to go and get muddy…

Torq Trail Running Team

Back before I can remember, I applied for a place on the new concept Torq Trail Running Team. A professional team, with a big difference – it will be made up of amateur runners who live to run on trails.

Well, for the past two months I’ve sat and waited, fingers crossed… and today, an email arrived… Confirming that I have been invited to an assessment day next month. If I pass at the selection day, I get to join Torq Fitness on their newly formed Trail Runners Team. I’ve got to say, I’m stunned and excited, 2013 is already kicking of to be a fantastic year, and now this..!

Successful applicants will receive all the benefits of being part of a professional team, including :

  • A nutritional assessment and nutrition products from TORQ Fitness
  • Team-branded kit for training and racing
  • A three day training and preparation trip running in the Alps on the UTMB course around Chamonix
  • Appearances in features in Trail Running Magazine
  • Support and advice throughout the season

What better preparation could there be for the Lakeland 50 and UTMB – TDS..?
